Values and Principles I live by – Life is what you make it

Daily Prompt

Have you got a code you live by? What are the principles or set of values you actively apply in your life?

In the past year, I’ve learned that having a set of principles and values that we constantly live by allows us to step out of our comfort zone and making the most out of every single day.

1. Carpe Diem – Seize the Day

We’re never really sure if we will have a tomorrow.  Anything can happen in the blink of the eye. This is a fact that I remind myself whenever I’m too scared to do something or too scared to approach someone. This is what I tell myself when I’m feeling lazy or when I don’t feel like doing anything at all. This is what I tell myself when I doubt whether or not an idea will work. Simply put, this motto is what allows me to make the most out of each day.

2. You never know until you try

Whenever we encounter something new, our subconscious tells us to stop and go the other way. We immediately think of the possible repercussions. We are scared by the fact that we might fail or waste our time. We research and ask the opinion of others whether or not it’s worth a shot. Yet I’ve come to realize that you’ll never really know what something is like unless you experience it yourself. You won’t know whether you like something or not unless you try it out. One Year Blogging Anniversary — The Best Is Yet To Be

I know I should be doing some last minute review for my SAT subject tests right now but as I posted my post on taking my last SATs tomorrow just a few minutes ago, I noticed a WordPress notification with a little trophy and as I clicked on it, there it came, “Happy Anniversary with WordPress.com!”

One year of finding the silver lining in every step of the journey

One year of finding the silver lining in every step of the journey

Indeed, time flies. I can’t believe it’s been a year since I started this blog. And reading through some of my posts, I can’t help but feel that I’ve somehow learned how to enjoy life more, to make life count a bit more.

Funny how in some ways, I have gone through a 360 degree change but deep down, I’m still the same David who one year ago started this blog with a purpose. This same purpose I guess is what has enabled me to continue blogging about my experiences, learnings and adventures.

And no matter how much I’ve changed since the day I started my blog, January 23, 2013, I’m actually still the same curious student of life with a bit more love for writing, but just as perplexed with the obscurities of life as I ever was.

Daily Prompt: I Am a Rock – Accepting Help then Giving Help!

This is my response to the Daily Prompt: I Am a Rock

Daily Prompt : I Am a Rock

Help-by-LiminalMike

Growing up, I never really was a person who would go out of his way to ask for help. I always wanted to do things on my own or figures things my own way. For me, asking for help was a sign for weaknesses and I was also afraid of being rejected.

Whenever my parents would help me or whenever they’d tell me to ask my sister or teacher for help, I’d feel so small and powerless. I wanted to be able to prove that I could do things on my own. Aside from that, when there would be group works, I’d usually end up doing most of the work because of the fact that I didn’t trust my group mates.

During these times, I would also think that instead of helping me, they might end up making things worse and just further eating up my time so it would be better if I did not ask for help. However, as I grew older, I learned the importance of asking for help. We cannot do everything by ourselves. We are only human and we will always need the assistance of others. Continue reading

I’m BACK! SUMMER’S just getting STARTED!

It’s been a really long time, 3 weeks to be exact, since I last opened wordpress and blogged. The past 3 weeks have been an adventure like no other. Each and everyday was full of lasting memories and unimaginable firsts. I really made it a point to make the most out of each and everyday of our trip in Europe and Hong Kong to the point of exhaustion, but looking back, it was more than worth it.

Although it would be impossible to capture and relive every single moment, I will try my best to right about the highlights of the trip and more importantly, what I realized and learned from these events. To be honest, everything happend so quickly and looking back, I sort of miss Europe and its peculiar atmosphere. But then again, I’m glad to be BACK! I’m glad not only to be back in my home sweet home but I’m also glad to be back to BLOGGING!

I actually arrived last friday night and right then and there I wanted to return to blogging but unfortunately, aside from the fact that I’m still kinda getting used to the atmosphere here, I’ve also been really busy. I’m not complaining though for I’d rather be busy than bored trying to kill time. I really want to make the most out of this summer with the mentality that this will be the BEST summer break ever!

What better way to resume summer my summer here than by going to one of my most anticipated events during the summer, Intervillage Basketball Tournament!! It was really fun and diverting to get back to playing the game I loved and at the same time catching up with friends who I only see during this time of the year! It’s crazy how fast and how much we’ve grown since our childhood days yet we still come back here every summer to play the game we love.

Aside from Intervillage, just this weekend, I resumed my SAT review with an unparalleled drive and purpose. I’ve come to realize that nothing comes easy and if I want to make it to a good school abroad, I’d have to step up my game and give it everything I’ve got. If others were able to do it, why can’t I? Right now, I’m really enthusiastic about my review and shockingly, I’ve somehow found a way to enjoy answering those mind-boggling worksheets on vocab and grammar.

I know this is just the start, but I hope that I’m able to keep this same zeal and impassioned drive throughout the summer! From here on out, the mountain will only be getting steeper, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to climb!

Tomorrow will definitely be another wire-to-wire day for Chemistry Camp and Basketball Practice starts tomorrow. I’m really looking forward to making the most out of this summer and with these two new mountains waiting for me, SUMMER has definitely just BEGUN!

I wouldn’t want to be late for my chemistry camp which starts at 7:30 am so I’m signing off, but I promise that I’ll be updating this blog more frequently as I try to slow down this bullet train called SUMMER! Got to make everyday count for SUMMER doesn’t last forever!

“Live everyday like your last.”
