Michael Jordan – A Living Legend
During the past few days, different sporting websites have been buzzing about Michael Jordan as he celebrated his 50th birthday just yesterday. As an avid basketball fan, I couldn’t help but be amazed for he has transcended generations by not only out performing all his peers but by also making his name a brand like no other.mazed at the legacy of Michael Jordan and how he has changed the world, through basketball.
He was and still is the epitome of a person who changed the world by becoming the best at what he loved. By reading his biography, I witnessed his sheer-determination and drive to become the greatest of them all. His competitive fire was unmatched and he always found a way to excel and one up his peers.
15 years after his prime, he is still widely regarded as the greatest basketball player of all time. It would probably take another century or so before he is dethroned for there is no one out there right now who has the same combination of skills, finesse, mindset, will and demeanor as Jordan had. He was on an entirely different level and up to this day continues to inspire thousands, if not millions and millions of people, both young and old.
Two quotes of Michael Jordan that never fails to motivate me:
“Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen.”
This first quote emphasizes the different people in the world and what separates the mediocre ones and the ones who are able to leave a mark and simply, MAKE IT HAPPEN. Only the ones who are willing to work hard and take the necessary steps in order to reach their goals are the ones who will be able to succeed. On the other hand, those who just want things to happen or wish things would happen are the ones who end up no where because they weren’t willing to give their blood, sweat and tears in achieving their goal. Nothing in life is easy and things won’t come to you just because you want it, but what we have to remember is that we can achieve anything we want in life, as long as we are willing to go the extra mile and MAKE IT HAPPEN!
“I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can’t accept not trying.”
Hand in hand with the first quote, this second quote teaches us that along the way, we will fail for nobody is perfect. Even Jordan himself said, “I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”
In order to achieve greater heights, one must not be afraid to take risks and step out of his/her comfort zone. It is during these struggles and arduous moments that we grow the most. WIthout a doubt, we wouldn’t know what success is if we never failed in our life. Failing is what makes success so sweet and fulfilling. Life is truly about falling eight times, but getting up 9.
I’ve truly realized that it is better to try and fail then not try at all for you don’t lose anything from trying, but you can lose everything from not trying. The world works in mysterious ways, so you will never truly know what will happen unless you try; And maybe, just maybe, lady luck might be smiling upon you during that one time and it could be the start of your time to leave your own mark here on earth.
His famous game-winning shot against the Utah Jazz during his last title run will always be remembered for it truly defined how phenomenal a player he was. Without a doubt, Michael Jordan will forever be remembered, not just as the greatest basketball player of all time, but also as a person who MADE IT HAPPEN.
